The Battle for LA goes to the Clippers in round 1

Last night the Lakers looked older, slower, and couldn't get defensive stops down the stretch when the game was on the line. The Clippers almost from top to bottom are in a better situation than the Lakers. From Coach to GM to Roster.

Neither team was at Full Strength. Kyle Kuzma was hurt and so was Paul George. But PG is far more valuable as a player than Kuzma is right now. PG is a legitimate 1st option on a team. Kuzma while he has potential is still largely unproven.

That leaves the majority of the play making and perimeter scoring on the Shoulders of LeBron James. While in years past he has been able to Carry that same workload with little problems. He is now in his 17th season and asking him to do it for 81 more regular season games and a potential deep playoff run is not something that is likely to end well for the Lake Show.

The Clippers in contrast have arguably the best player in Basketball in Kawhi Leonard and a young athletic roster that gets after you defensively and makes you work hard for everything you get. A mindset that clearly comes from Doc Rivers. Doc always preaches Team play on offense moving the ball around and fierce defensive intensity.

When Kuzma and PG come back to their respective teams and the Clips and the Lakers square off again. It will be interesting. But the first game and round go to the Clippers. And they are clearly on an uptrend while the Lakers seem to be trending in the wrong direction.
