A Leader Lonzo Ball is not.
Lonzo Ball has had an up and down rookie season. With a little over a month and a half left in the regular season one thing can be sure going forward. Lonzo Ball is not a leader. He might be able to fix his broken jump shot. (even though his percentages are a lot better than they where during the first half of the season his form is still awkward). But he will never truly be the Leader that the Lakers drafted him to be.
A lot of people play up his even keeled go with the flow kind of attitude. But if you appear too apathetic to your team they are not going to follow you any where. One situation where this type of attitude is NEVER okay is when your teammate is being physically challenged by some one from the opposition.
Last night the Houston Rocket's Gerald Green showed exactly how to come to a teammates aid when he stepped to Minnesota Timberwolves Center Gorgui Dieng after Dieng Shoved a defenseless Chris Paul to the floor while Paul was bent over reaching for the ball with his back turned. After the initial shove of Paul, Green immediately stepped up and shoved Dieng in retaliation. This is in direct contrast in how Ball handled a similar situation between his Lakers team and the Phoenix Suns earlier in the season. No one is saying Ball should have hauled off and punched someone on the Suns team but he should at the very least have stepped up and showed that he was there for support.
In the Future Ball might be a very good contributor for the Lakers. But the Lakers are clearly going to win in spite of his leadership skills not because of them.
